To my amazement, I've just been nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award. I only started this blog a couple of weeks and wasn't sure how it would go but this is a little bit of encouragement to keep it up. The lovely Roberta Romeo kindly nominated me so I want to give her a massive thank you (please go check out her blog!). I was worried when I started this blog that I didn't have a specific direction because there where too many things I was interested in and wanted to talk about but I'm glad that the "versatility" is working out ok.

Now I have been nominated there are a few things that have to be done to appreciate this award and give back to the rest of the blogging world.
I need to:

  • Thank the person who has appointed me this award and include their link
  • Write 7 things about myself
  • Select 15 blogs newly discovered and name them

7 THINGS ABOUT MYSELF (leaving out all the stuff you can figure out from my blog!)

  • I love to ski and golf! I started both around the age of 3 and loved to race or compete. Unfortunately I don't get the time I would like to compete now but I hope I get back into it.
  • I have M.E and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and I have had it since I was about 15 so I still find it hard to do all the things I would like to. (If anyone else has these illnesses or something similar then please message!)
  • Ironically after the last fact, I love health and fitness and I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie. I've always been active since I was a child and just love to be busy, outdoors, and exercising in any way and the more daring the activity then the more excited I get.
  • My main career goal is to be an actor, I have just finished a course at drama school and most of my jobs come from my agent so that is my ultimate goal in life.
  • My back up career is zoology (no that isn't working in a zoo). I have always been obsessed with animals. I understand them more than humans and they make me feel like a giddy child.
  • I want to move to California. Since I can remember I have alway wanted to live there and I don't eve know what started it but theres a million reason i want to live there now so even if I live there for just a year of my life then I will be one extremely happy girl.
  • Three of my favourite hobbies are music, cars and football. Gigs are my favourite night out (mainly indie/rock), watching a footy game on a summers day is one of my favourite days out and I am constantly looking at every car that drives by. (Yes, I have a tomboy side).

-  Cara Haley

I have really enjoyed writing the post as its the first time I've been able to give you some real insight into my life and I've been able to discover some brilliant new blogs. I hope you guys enjoy it all as well and I hope my nominations enjoy completing this post as well!

I get stressed so easily with lots of little things in life (probably because im a huge perfectionist), so when I find little tips and tricks to help me with any small problem they seem to make my life so much easier and obviously beauty is a big thing in my day to day life so I thought I'd let you know what my favourite little hacks are that make life a little simpler for me.

beauty, hacks, tips, tricks, make up, hair, nails, body

    • When using a concealer palette or cream contour palette, slightly wet your brushes so that it doesnt look as thick on your face and it also helps the product go further and last longer.

    • Don’t put mascara on false eyelashes. It will make them last longer so you can use then multiple times without then looking like spiders legs on your eyes, no one wants that!

    • Don’t wear your hair in a bobble too much as it weakens your hair and causes it to snap (its happened to me!). If i'm in the house or going to bed I try to put my hair in a big clip on top of my head or use a scrunchy.

    • Try and put topcoat or nail strengthener directly on to your nails each day and you will have healthy strong, long nails in no time.

    • Give your legs a quick scrub/exfoliate with an exfoliating brush or shower puff before shaving your legs. Wet your legs, scrub them, let the water soak into your legs, shave, then soak in water again. Say bye bye to your large pores!

    • When spraying perfume on your wrists, dab your wrists together instead of rubbing as rubbing spoils some of the molecules and therefore changes the way the scent performs on your skin.

    • After straightening your hair spray your brush with hair spray and then brush through your hair, repeat until all your hair is covered and this will stop all those frizzy bits and keeps its perfectly straight all day or night.

    • Always use lip liner under your lipstick to make sure it stays on for longer and and doesn't slip outside the lines of your lips. Also who doesn't want their lips to looks bigger!?

    • If you have any patches of dry skin on your face after applying make up then just rub in a tiny bit of moisturiser over your make up on the affected area. The appearance of dry skin should disappear. If needed then use your foundation brush to go over the area so there are no patches but don't add any more product.

    • Invest in brush cleaner (I own mac which is £8 for a huge bottle that lasts ages). Just apply to a cotton pad or some kind of tissue and rub your brushes until no more make up rubs off onto the tissue. Using brush cleaner will save you time and allows you to use your brushes straight after cleaning rather than having to let them dry. This will be better for your skin and your make up will look much nicer.

    • Apply cellotape on your eyes (or a plaster if cellotape is too harsh on your skin), from the outer corner of your eye to the direction of the end of your eyebrow, for slick eyeshadow and liner look. Remove after you have finished your eye make up and then apply your foundation.

    • Always apply your concealer in an upside down triangle under your eyes. This stops your concealer from making your under eye bags looking heavier and blends in to the rest of your make up. Also apply to the inside corner of your eyes (sides of the nose) to help cover though tired looking eyes.

    • Don't pump your mascara brush. Swirl it around in the tube to stop the air from getting in and drying your mascara whilst still being able to cover your brush.

    • Don't throw away dried up mascara. Put a couple of eye drops into the tube to get the most out of it!

    • Quick trip to exfoliate lips. when brushing your teeth just give your lips a quick brush at the end to get super smooth lips.

    • To make your eyeshadow stay on for longer apply concealer before your eye make up. It creates a nice base for the shadow to stick to and stops it from creasing.

    • When applying mascara, move your mascara brush side to side on your lashes moving upwards to give full coverage quickly.

    • DIY tinted moisturiser. Mix together a bit of your favourite moisturise and foundation for a nice tinted moisturise on a day when you feel you need to give your skin a bit of a break. Also it stops you having to search for new products you like and spending a fortune on something you don't really want.

    • Always use base and top coat on your nails. I think this is a pretty obvious one that most people know yet it surprises me how many people don't do it. It take two seconds to apply and dry and it will stop your nails from discolouring or going brittle.

    • Before applying lipstick, cover the outline of your lips with concealer or even use foundation, then use a lipliner to recreate the outline of your lips how you want. Cover your whole lips with the lip pencil rather than just outlining your lips and this will create a great base and will stop you from getting just a horrible 80's/90's style outlined lip if your lipstick wears off.

    • Old but very worthwhile tip, after applying lipstick place a piece of tissue paper between your lips and press the whole of your lips onto the tissue paper. It gets rid of any excess lipstick and helps keep you lippy on for much longer without it moving.

    • If you use extensions then back comb your hair at the roots in the places where you will be placing the clips. Clip the extensions into the backcombed hair and this will stop them from sliding down your head.

These are the main beauty hacks I stand by but I know there are plenty more that I will of forgotten and I am constantly coming across new ones so I will keep you updated on what new tips and tricks I come across to help make the world of beauty a little less stressful. Hope some of these help you and if you have any more beauty hacks you find helpful then I would love to know about them so please get in touch!

The best way to avoid disappointment is to not expect anything from anyone or anything. Whenever I say this to people the first things they say to me is, that sounds depressing. I understand where they are coming from, it does sound miserable, but the reason I try to not expect things from life is so I'm not miserable. No one just deserves things from life. You cant sit at home wondering why you never get a job offer when you aren't busting your butt handing out CVs to every single place you can possibly think of. You cant be annoyed at the world for not handing you the love of your life if you aren't opening yourself up to love. If you stop just expecting things from life or from people then it stops you from feeling let down or disappointed and motivates you to start working for the things you want so then when you do get them, it makes you feel all the more proud and fulfilled knowing that you truly earned it!

"Set your expectation low enough that they are achievable, but not so high that you fail to reach them, if you don't expect too much you will never be disappointed"
- Anonymous

I have believed this and tried to live by this ever since I was young. Considering my career of choice is acting, this hasn't always been easy to do. There's been times when i question wether I'm making the right choice or I'm being incredible stupid and then I heard this quote from a Jim Carey speech, "You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love", and since hearing this I haven't once doubted my decision to be an actress because wether I'm successful or not, at least I know I will always be happy. Life can go wrong no matter what you do and nothing can ever give you security for life but there are things that can make you happy for a lifetime so why not take a chance on them?

"Live the life you've imagined"
- Henry David Thoreau

And even the people that look like they do still don't feel like they do. No one ever feels like they have their life together apart from a few days a year where you feel like you are in control of everything but that feeling never lasts long. Life's hard and you can't control everything that happens or that you want to happen so the easiest thing is too accept that and accept that life is hard so just enjoy every moment you can!

"You're only human. You don't have to have it together every minute of every day"
- Anne Hathaway

You can lean on your parents and friends for everything from money to advice. I am the worst for pretending everything is fine and not sharing my problems but it makes life much easier when you finally do share things with people in your your life. When you put pressure on yourself to handle everything yourself it makes the problems and worries you have feel even worse. Maybe if you just talk things through then you might just realise that they aren't as bad as they seem.

"Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much."
- Helen Keller

Sometimes it seems so hard when it feels like all your friends are coupled up and doing exciting things with their partners and they have forgotten all about you. Everyone has been in this situation. Although it seems like they are sorting their life out moving in together, getting married, and already starting their family and you are still stuck in your parents house wondering how you will ever be able to move out just keep in mind that you only have yourself to please. You can go out and do everything you have ever dreamt of, travel wherever you want and accomplish the things you want to accomplish without having to worry about someone else's feelings and without feeling guilty for doing the things you want to do. It is far better to be single and strong than to be with the wrong person just because you think you should.

"Too many girls rush into relationships because of the fear of being single, then start making compromises and losing their identity. Don't do that."
- Katy perry

I am terrible at believing this but its true. Don't sit there thinking why doesn't anyone ever message me or ask me to go out or go and travel, reach out to them yourself. Look through your contacts and see how many people you haven't spoke to or seen in a while and ask them to go and have a catch up or ask if they are up for doing something you have been dying to go out and do. Don't sit at home wishing you could meet a new friend to go and do crazy things with or hoping that you will magically meet a boy you think is perfect for you. Be thankful for the people that are already in your life and more thankful for the people who have stuck around. You will never get what you want in life if you don't appreciate what you already have.

"You will never get what you want until you are thankful for what you have."
- Michael P. Watson

I know that everyone knows this but I cant stress how much this is true and yet i still don't believe this half the time. I cant tell you the amount of times I go on social media and I see people travelling the world, moving away, getting their dream jobs or even just pictures of my friends on an outing that I couldn't go to or wasn't invited and I come off my phone in a terrible mood. Why do we do this to ourselves. The majority of the pictures and status's or tweets aren't what they seem anyway and yet we can be in a perfectly good mood and ruin it for ourselves. Take a break from social media!

"The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel"
- Steve Furtick

This is the lesson I've most recently learnt. Ever wondered why when you get in a relationship with a good friend its not quite the same fun relationship you had before? or why people can be together over 20 years with no problem and then once they get married it all goes wrong. Its because you start expecting more and more things from the other person and put pressure on them to do everything you are wanting to do without telling them. You need to expect less from them and put less pressure on them to be your happiness and once you do the small things they do that you have stopped noticing suddenly start to make you happy again.

"What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how life is supposed to be"
- Socrates

Leading on from the last lesson, always appreciate everyone in your life (unless they are poison then I advise that you forget those blood suckers!). All the people in your life should make you a better person in some kind of way wether its by making you relaxed, fun, motivated or even just happier theres lots of ways they can change your life for the better. Figure out why they do and then appreciate them for it, don't just expect them to stay in your life. Would you stay in your friends life or stay with your boyfriend if they didn't appreciate you but just expected you to stay?

"Too many people realise at the end of their life that they have taken for granted those who really love them"
- Lesley M.M. Blume

And now my 3 favourite...

10. LIVE

Don't let your life go by without appreciating every moment. Its a great idea to plan, to have goals, and to do things you may not want to do because it is a way of getting the life you want but at the same time don't spend your whole life like that because you will be on your death bed knowing that you didn't actually have the experiences that count. It might be a depressing thought thinking that tomorrow could be your last day but once you accept that death is inevitable at any point in life then it gives you the freedom to really live.

"Don’t ignore death, but don’t be afraid of it either.  Be afraid of a life you never lived because you were too afraid to take action. Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside you while you’re still alive"
- Live Learn Evolve

It is the best therapy and the best feeling and what's even better is that its free. Even at some of the worst times in your life if you just find the tiniest thing to laugh at for the briefest of moments then you will already start to feel better. If you can find time for just 1 thing in your day then I advice that it be laughter (even if it means watching cat videos on youtube then so be it). There's nothing better than a happy and laughing life.

"You don't stop laughing because you grow older, you grow older because you stop laughing"
- Maurice Chevalier

12. LOVE

In my opinion this is the simplest and most complex thing in life and no one ever really fully understands it. Everything we do in life is based on love and hate. Its a feeling that we have every day, wether its as simple as your favourite food or music or maybe its the love for the most important people in your life, yet this is the hardest feeling to understand. It's the most complex, it causes the happiest of moments in your life and at the same time the most hurt you will ever feel but if you go through life without truly loving people and different things therefore opening yourself up to those people and things then you will never truly know the meaning of life.

"Love will hurt. If it doesn't hurt you are not doing it right. To truly love someone you must open yourself up to the pain that would be losing them"
- Teresa Mummert

We all learn different lessons throughout life and some mean more to us than others but these are the ones that have been most important to me lately. I go through times where I forget these lessons and have to relearn them but I try not to be hard on myself for letting my positivity slip and just try and make sure to have a more positive mindset from that day forward. I hope these have helped you in some way and if you have any to tell me then I would love to hear them from you. There will be a few posts to follow on acceptance, positivity and the magic book that is 'The Secret'.
